13767992A Lance Naik Kashmir Singh was posted to 17th Battalion the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles with effect from 28 January 2003.The individual is sincere and proficient in tasks allotted to him. He has been an active sportsman in the battalion volleyball team. He played vital role during operation Ghoretal in elimination of five hardcore heavily armed terrorists.
Op performance :On 15 August 2016, Lance Naik Kashmir Singh was part of the column mobilized to eliminate infiltrating terrorists. The column spotted two terrorists in Ghoretal Nala (MS 992172) at 1215th, further closing in initiated fierce gun fight wherein terrorists engaged own column with heavy small arms and under Barrel Grenade Launcher fire.
In the ensuring firefight Lance Naik Kashmir Singh sustained serious splinter injury. However with complete disregard to personal safety and displaying indomitable courage, he continued to advance from cover to cover while continuously engaging the terrorists thereby preventing further damage to own troops. In daring display of devotion beyond the call of duty, he further closed inb the shot one terrorist dead from close range. He thereafter occupied tactically advantageous position to seal the escape route of second terrorist while continuously engaging him thereby allowing encircling from another direction, ultimately leading to his neutralization.
Lance naik Kashmir Singh thus displayed definitive tactical prowess and conspicuous gallantry despite being seriously injured, insuring elimination of two hardcore terrorists thereby preventing a high profile terrorist strike on Independence Day which was also appreciated by chief of the Army Staff, for which he is very strongly recommended for “Shaurya Chakra (Gallantry)”.
